Know Idea

A dream I experienced lead me to think about economic, cultural and political systems in terms of shared dreams. The participants in a system must believe in the efficacy of it if it is to survive in the long term. How else can one explain the emergence of vastly different forms of economic, cultural and political systems in modern times. more…

Action 360
by Murray Woodman on Oct.20, 2004, under Know Idea
KAP has been a major influence on this idea. In this case a camera is held aloft by a balloon or kite and a 180 degree photo is taken towards the ground. A subsequent image is then taken towards the sky and the two images are combined. However, it should be possible to rotate the axis 90 degrees and take 360 degree photos of scenes with opposing elements. more…

Testing, Testing, 123
by Murray Woodman on Dec.14, 2003, under Know Idea
I’ve just set up this blog using Blogger. Wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for the orange “b” in the google toolbar. One day I’ll get around to posting up some of my ideas… I’ve got a whole heap scattered around the place. Some of them go back several years – before this blog post. I’ll set the dates retrospectively on them so that there is some kind of chronological ordering.
Update
Yep. I have worked through my various scribblings and have now uploaded some blog posts. Yipee.
At the time of inspiration I genuinely felt that there was something innovative in each of the ideas. In many (most) cases a little research demonstrated that the idea wasn’t that new and in fact someone had managed to implement it to a certain degree. Oh well. I’ve still included the ideas though for historical purposes. The joke is that many of the AdSense ads actually are for the idea
There are of course a few ideas that I have held back on. I’m hoping to make something of them before releasing them to the world.
Update: I moved the blog to WordPress in May 2009 and am happy for it.
Musical toy
by Murray Woodman on Sep.01, 2003, under Know Idea
Children need to be stimulated when they are young to aid their development. They should be provided with stimulating toys that are fun to play and offer some developmental benerfits. Musical instruments essentially provide different interfaces to making air vibrate. The best instruments provide some analogue controls so that the musician can express themselves. more…
Public liability contracts
by Murray Woodman on Apr.29, 2003, under Know Idea
I heard a story on 2BL which was about North Shore (conservative area of Sydney) parents being concerned for their public liability when their children hosted underage parties. They were worried that some children would engage in illegal activities such as underage drinking and drug consumption. They were also very concerned about gate crashers. Apparently some of them were making parents, and possibly minors, sign contracts before being allowed entry to the party. I generalised this and wondered why there weren’t easily maintainable “contract” web sites which could do this kind of stuff. more…
Image composition
by Murray Woodman on Feb.01, 2003, under Know Idea
I had spent a small amount of time with an object called ASPImage and had programmed a system which could store a library of small images and then decompose a source image into the smaller images. This was something I had wanted to do for a long time and I was very chuffed with what I had done. I believed to to be quite innovative, however, a search on the internet deflated my excitement and ego. There were already a number of plug ins and standalone systems that did what I had programmed. Damn. more…
Attack of the baby boomers
by Murray Woodman on Aug.01, 2002, under Know Idea
The baby boomers are all about to retire. The first of the batch are now doing so. They are all cashed up and will be looking for leisure and lifestyle services and products. If you had something in mind for this segment then now would be a good time to get the ball rolling. I’m not sure if recreation centres, holidays and retirement homes are my cup of tea. However, I can see a “mature but fun” brand emerging which could coordinate many of the social activities for retired baby boomers. The kids are off their hands and out of their hair. The mortgage has been paid. The pension or super is kicking in (maybe). They have time on their hands and want to indulge themselves. more…
Network Help

Broadband has a foothold in the homes of leading consumers. It has been held back by technological constraints – no cable or unreliable ADSL – but will become increasingly popular. Consumers have an insatiable appetite for bandwidth when they can get it. Soon we will all be getting sound and movie clips from the web. more…
